Each piece of Bend of Isles jewellery is thoughtfully handcrafted. It is important to ensure your jewellery is properly cleaned, polished and stored. Please follow our guidelines to ensure your jewellery stays beautiful. 

Sterling Silver

Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. Sterling silver jewellery that is regularly worn requires less care. Sterling Silver tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine and household chemicals. 

To clean sterling silver jewellery is to mix 1 teaspoon of bi-carb soda with 1 teaspoon of water. Lightly scrub jewellery piece with a soft brush. Rinse well in warm water, dry thoroughly and finish with a jewellery polishing cloth.

Storing your sterling silver jewellery in its original box or wrapped in a soft cloth away from other jewellery in an airtight container will reduce tarnishing.

Vermeil (Plated Metals)

It is important to take special care during wear and between wears to extend the life of your plated jewellery. 

Always remove plated jewellery prior to applying cosmetic products such as perfume, hairspray and deodorant. Any substance that isn’t PH neutral can potentially affect your plated jewellery. Plated jewellery should be removed prior to exercising, showering or swimming. Avoid wearing your plated jewellery in a way which may cause abrasion. 

Cleaning can dramatically extend the period between re-plating. Wash plated jewellery with warm water. Use a mild soap only if necessary. Dry with a soft cloth. 

Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals such as household chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning.

Between wear take care to store your plated jewellery in its original box or wrapped in a soft cloth separate from other jewellery. 

Bend of Isles vermeil jewellery is 3 Micron thick 23ct Gold Plate on a Sterling Silver base. We recommend getting your piece re plated every couple of years to keep it looking its best.
